    Description

The name Rumford comes from the Rumford chair which Professor Horsford occupied. He was a Professor  in the Application of Science to the Useful Arts. Baking Powder was invented in 1859 to give needed leavening to batters and dough, but prior to Rumford the leavening powder varied greatly in degree depending on what baking powder was used by the cook. Rumford's powder was also special because it used Calcuim  Phosphate which allowed a more balanced diet and didn't leave an after taste that many of the other baking powders did. Rumford Baking Powder was very inventive when it came to markets. Rumford developed thousands of recipes in their own kitchens; gathered recipes from the average housewife; addressed the war effort in WWII; and developed recipes specifically for other countries. They also put the name or brand on everything from a child's spinning top to everyday kitchen items.
The can is a 4 oz size- it is empty--please refer to pictures for condition. The biscuit cutter is 4 inches high--has no marks other than the Rumford name. Please ask if you have any questions.
