Original British WW1 Princess Mary 1914 Christmas Gift Fund Brass Tin
Lovely example of the tin sent to all soldiers and sailors on Christmas 1914 from Princess Mary's Gift Fund. This tin has been lovingly polished over the years by the owner, leading to some polish residue remaining in the detail and a slight wear to the detail lines on Mary's profile. All country names, dates and image details are still visible and present. There are a few  spots on the sides and bottom where the finish has dulled a bit, due to fingerprints after polishing (you can still make out the prints in some) and these could be polished out if you should choose to do so, but it still shows very nicely. There are some slight dents to the edge of the lid that you can see in the pictures. There is a stain to the brass finish inside the lid, probably caused by something being left inside, which may clean up, check the picture to see it. The bottom has some dents that make it slightly rippled, but it still sits flat and stable. The front edge has a very small outward bend, but the lid still closes fully and stays shut nicely.
The hinge is in perfect condition and there are no stress cracks around it from over opening. Overall still in very fine condition for its age and obvious use over the last 100+ years. A wonderful addition to your WW1 collection of an iconic item from the first year of the war, and a treasured souvenir  of all those who received it, as this owner clearly cherished it.
