Description
The very last design done by Walter Moorcroft, ten years after his official “retirement”. Aptly named “Rock of Ages” , Walter choose to represent his favorite vacation spot. Featuring rocky cliffs, a cerulean blue ocean, billowing white clouds against a bright blue sky with one small sailboat in the distance seemed to sum up Walter’s life.In “Memories of Life and Living”, his personal reflection on a life spanning eight decades, he writes about his childhood, beginning work at running the factory, war years and returning from the war at just 27 years old in 1945 to begin as Managing Director, Works Director and Arts Director. For well over forty years Walter kept the pottery going when most closed or were taken over. After his retirement in 1987 he continued as a consultant to the company. In 1997 Walter Designed “After the Storm” , symbolizing his feeling and reconciliation after turning over the factory. And in 1998 came this very last design, symbolizing the beauty in love, living and the world. In the Epilogue he states “With the passage of time my religious faith has faltered in the direction of agnosticism, but one personal prayer still rings true:
Oh! Lord help me to find thy gifts in life
The beauty of love
The beauty of living
The beauty of the world.
I have found them all.
